Strengthening Our Borders: Ozone and Single-Use Plastic Unit Training for Customs and Excise Officers

Last week, the Department of Environment’s Ozone and Single-Use Plastics Unit collaborated with Customs and Excise to conduct a training session for first-year customs officers.

This workshop was the third in our series aimed at equipping frontline officers with the knowledge of the protocols necessary to enforce the ban on single-use plastics and to support the phased removal of harmful HCFCs, in line with our commitments to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Montreal Protocol.

Why it matters: Strengthened enforcement will lead to fewer plastics in our oceans, better ozone layer protection, and a smoother transition to sustainable alternatives. This is particularly important for a small island nation like ours, as we work towards a resilient and eco-friendly future.

A big thank you to the customs team and our partners! Securing a #SustainableSKN is a collaborative effort.
