Public Education

The Public Education Programme empowers citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about environmental sustainability, health, and national development. Through targeted outreach, school engagement, and multimedia campaigns, it fosters environmental awareness, civic responsibility, and lifelong learning.

Integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

In 2022, the Ministry of Education submitted a national report to UNESCO detailing its ESD initiatives:

Challenges: Lack of a national ESD policy, limited teacher training, and insufficient learning materials.
Progress: A National Sustainable Development Coordinating Committee (NSDCC) was formed to align education with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4.7.
Focus Areas: Climate change, biodiversity conservation, land use planning, and environmental management

Climate Adaptation in Schools

A US$205,000 climate change adaptation project is underway to improve water access at 17 educational facilities across the federation. This initiative enhances resilience and promotes environmental awareness among students

Community groups like CYEN (Caribbean Youth Environment Network) and C.A.R.E. SKN are involved in:

The Ministry of Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment leads many environmental education efforts including youth-led programs like:
